"Whatever this creature had stopped, stared, and stayed behind the bushes on the other side. I can’t tell if it was 'after us’ or if it was just making sure we left its side of the bridge."
I received the following account:
"We live in Poland along the Czech border. This is relevant because there aren't many large, predatory mammals around. About a year ago, we took our off-road vehicle into a nearby forest that we’ve been in many times during the day and night. We parked near and walked across a bridge to the other side of the woods, which are surrounded by mounds (probably old war trenches).
The first thing I noticed was the complete silence; the only sound was the crunching of dead leaves as we walked. The second thing I noticed was that all of the grassy plants and shrubs on the ground had been crushed and were facing the same direction, as if a herd of buffalo had come down from the mounds and trampled them. As we’re walking closer to the mounds, suddenly we hear this heavy thud on the ground, about 5 meters away towards the mounds, like a 60 kg weight just landed. We don’t see or hear anything else.
We decide to go back to the bridge, which is 20 meters away. When we get there, still on the side of the mounds, we stop and shine our flashlights at the forest. We don’t see or hear anything. About 30 seconds later, we begin to cross the bridge, still with our flashlights pointed at the forest, but now in a bush about 3 meters away are two sets of round, yellow eyes staring at us. The first set of eyes is 1.5-2 meters from the ground, and the other set is about 1 meter. We had just shined our flashlights in that exact spot and were still in earshot of this bush. How did this thing move so quickly without making noise?
We walked the rest of the bridge backwards while shining lights at this bush; the whole time, these eyes were watching us. We jumped into the vehicle and hauled our buttsout of there. Luckily, it didn’t follow us. Whatever this creature had stopped, stared, and stayed behind the bushes on the other side of the bridge. I can’t tell if it was 'after us’ or if it was just making sure we left its side of the bridge.
We went back the next day. There were no animal prints near that bush and no signs of disturbance, although we did find some animal bones on top of the mounds. Someone online suggested a crawler. Does that sound right? Any other ideas on what else this was?" P
NOTE: There have been many crawler sightings in southern Poland over the years, so I would say that it is possible. Lon
