A reader forwarded the following information:
"In April of 1971, residents in the suburbs of Mobile, Alabama reported sightings of what they called a "Wolf Woman" roaming the streets at night, most famously Davis Avenue. Witnesses claimed the creature had the upper body of a human and the lower body of a wolf, with long hair flowing down like a mane. It was a quadruped running on all fours.
According to a report in the local newspaper, the Mobile Register, one witness described it as "a woman and wolf, pretty and hairy." They claimed to have been chased and stalked by the Wolf Woman and even claimed to have seen her wandering properties. The Mobile Register even included an illustration in one article.
Although no one was injured, law enforcement and the newspaper took it seriously, after receiving up to 50 calls reporting sightings. After 10 days of "sightings", the creature disappeared.
There's always a chance this is fake. One person claims to have seen something, or maybe a few see it, and then hysteria ensues or attention-hungry people hit home runs. However, what interests me, is what the first person sees? Because to me, a person seeing a wolf woman and a person seeing a "big ole' mountain lion" are two different things.
Though unlikely, there is a theory about the Wolf Woman - that she may be a 'feral woman.' The Lobo Wolf Girl of Devil's River is a documented incidence of a feral child. Heck, we all know "feral kids" have been a thing for a long time.
One other thing that sticks out to me is the date and location of the sighting. Mobile is a port city along Alabama's panhandle, on the Gulf of Mexico, not far from Pensacola, Florida. This didn't take place in the back hills of the Appalachians. I know the stereotype is that everyone below Kentucky is a hillbilly, but of course, that isn't the case, and I seriously doubt the residents of Mobile in 1970 were." G
