The following account was forwarded to me:
"In October 1987, Dennis,16, and his step-brother, 16, were out illegally spotlighting deer one Friday night in their open jeep in Okeechobee County, Florida. His step-brother noticed something and Dennis, who had the rifle, stood up to shoot but he didn’t know at what. He then noticed some eyes but he thought that they were simply too highup and too large. He thought it must be an owl. His step-brother became frantic, ordering him to shoot.“Shoot it! Shoot it!”]
That’s when Dennis realized that the eyes were attached to an enormous body. He finally looked at what his brother was seeing and was shocked. He described it as the biggest thing he’d ever seen. Because it was humanoid, he initially thought it was a man, but his brother pointed out that it was covered in hair.
“I laid it (the gun) on his shoulder. When I did, I had to tilt the gun up a little bit to where the eyes were and I put this thing right between the eyes and we were 50 to 60 feet or 20 yards or less from this creature. I cocked the hammer back. I said, ‘I'm ready’. He said, ‘Go!’ I pulled the trigger. When I did, it ejected so fast, you know, I shot a second time. Whether that second shot hit or not, I don't know, but he said, ‘You got it, it's down!’ And then all of a sudden, he ain't no more than said that and got that out of his mouth, he turned to his left and looked over his left shoulder and he said, ‘Oh crap, we got to go! We got to get out of here! Hold on!’ I said, ‘What is it? There ain't no lights?’ He said ‘We gotta go! We gotta go!’ And he threw it in gear and he hauled butt. He nearly threw me out of the jeep, he was just flying down this road. We were hitting them potholes, bouncing.”
When they finally got out of the woods, his stepbrother did not want to talk about what he saw. “It frightened him so badly.” Eventually, he did tell Dennis that when he turned to his left, he saw another creature coming towards them in the darkness. It terrified him so much that he needed to leave.
Dennis noted in his description that he only saw from the waist to the head. He didn’t notice much by way of facial features, only that its eyes appeared yellow but wasn’t sure if they were actually glowing or reflecting the spotlight. He guessed that it was around 8 feet tall, just enormous. His brother claimed that he heard the “splat” sound when the bullet struck the creature, so he was certain that it was hit but when they went back the next day, there was no trace of the creature, not even blood. They found it odd that something so big would be gone. “How can you shoot something and it not be there?”
