On June 4, 2017, a reconnaissance mission was conducted to the area of the village of Kulakovo, Vitebsk, Belarus where several years ago a resident of the suburbs of Vitebsk had contact with a strange creature, the likes of which we have not yet been able to find.
The closest comparison is with the folklore Leshy or "snowman," although with some significant reservations. The encounter itself in the specified area took place around 2012, but all this time the eyewitness Alexander O. did not tell anyone about it except close relatives and friends. His daughter told us about it, thus building a bridge of trust between the researchers and the person who encountered an inexplicable phenomenon and automatically decided not to bring it anywhere else outside the family circle.
Below is the informant's verbatim account and possible reconstruction of the creature:
“I went there to pick mushrooms. It was 4 years ago, I think. Somewhere around the beginning of August. And we stopped at this place. Left the car. So what: believe it or not. My wife walked away towards the lake.
I looked around – there weren’t that many mushrooms and started calling my wife: “Lena! Lena! Let’s go! Let’s go!” And she walked on and didn’t hear. Maybe I called him? Or what? So, I look, and there are some small things: birch groves, aspen groves, that’s it. A small forest. I collect them and call them on. I look: something, like a burnt tree. That’s how thick it is. Absolutely black. That’s how they say, after a fire you see a tree. I didn’t pay attention, I moved on.
The tree is still there. I come up to it and think: “Well, I’ll take a look.” Something seemed to attract me. I lift my head up – there is a head three times bigger than mine. Similar to a monkey’s – low forehead, big eye. He is looking at me, well, it is literally four meters away. Three or four meters. So, he is looking at me and such a kind face, pleasant. Not at all angry. I was not scared at all. Overgrown and black. And the face is black too. His lips and nose seem to be human, and a big head. But I didn’t see the body, so to speak. I didn’t see any arms or legs. I paid attention and even wanted to talk, but since he was so attentive, a very smart creature.
I said: “Wow!” So that’s it. With my voice. As soon as I said “wow” – [he] instantly disappeared. [Disappeared or hid behind a tree?] No, he didn’t appear before my eyes at all, he just disappeared! […] So further – there are tall pines on the right side. Towards the lake there. No wind, nothing, this is the weather, this is beautiful. And these trees, look, diverge and converge, diverge and converge. Towards the lake. Fifty meters from the car. And, so, it went towards the lake, like a whirlwind. And after that, there were no more.
My wife came. But for some reason, I had terrible bad luck after that. It wasn't that I was touched inside or that I was scared: I punctured a tire in one place - "sat down", we drove on along this road - a forest road.
[That is, what you took for a tree, did it also disappear?] No, it wasn't a tree, it was gone too. It was like a torso. Like a torso. It just completely disappeared from sight. And it was about three meters high, maybe even more.
[And the girth?] And the girth is not thick.
[About 60 centimeters?] Less.
[And the head?] And the head is exactly the same as the torso. But overgrown like this. Or it could have had short fur, thick fur like this. Or he was standing sideways. But the main thing is that I didn’t see any arms or legs.” AO
