In the writings of the American explorer and metaphysician Baird Thomas Spalding (1872–1953) compiled in his now famous New Age book series, Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East (Camarillo, California: DeVorss Publications, 1927-1953), the author imparts significant information about the years that the greatest Master and teacher of all, Jesus the Christ, spent in India and Tibet. Spalding made to two extended expeditionary trips to India and Tibet in the Himalayas in 1894 and 1924, and in 1935 made a short trip to India where he met up with a group of prestigious academics and mystics. It was on these excursions that Spalding purposely sought out those Masters who could enlighten him about Jesus’ presence in the Himalayas so long ago.
Several of the Gnostic gospels reference Jesus’ trips to the Far East, most notably from the so-called “missing years,” when the Master was between the ages of 13 and 30, of which the Bible says nothing. I think it is highly regrettable that most Catholic and Protestant clergy dismiss such texts as the Gospels of Thomas and the Gospel of Mary Magdalene. They erroneously assume that the Bible is a closed canon. But what they fail to recognize is that the Bible, as we have it today, is composed of 66 separate books. At the end of a few of these books, the prophecies are sealed; but only about the ones given in those books, not for the whole Bible taken collectively or for the Word of God, which comes to us by the power of the Holy Ghost and continuous revelation. That other books can and should be added to the canon of Christian scripture as they come into the light for all humankind is evidenced in the Gospel of John, Chapter 21, Verse 25 (KJV): “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.” Maybe the organized religionists are afraid that the information contained in the Gnostic gospels and other revelations coming to light in these latter days might put them in the unemployment line. All the Masters of the Far East, and even Jesus himself taught us that we have no need of such middlemen beyond a certain point. There comes a time when the eaglets must become as full-fledged eagles and take to flight on their own. In the same Gospel of John, Chapter 14, Verse 12 (KJV), we read: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” Here we see the great trust and empowerment that Jesus bestowed upon his followers. These words were literally fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost, where following the ascension of Jesus back to his Heavenly Father, the Holy Ghost came down in tongues of fire and ignited the lives of all the believers with divine power to go forth to all nations and peoples and accomplish the works of God in both words and deeds.

Christmas Message from the Masters of the Far East
In Volume II of Spalding’s Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East, there are several occasions where a Master would return from the Celestial Realms in a resurrected and perfected body to provide further light and knowledge to the expedition of seekers from the West. In Chapter VII we note that Spalding and his team of experts from many fields that accompanied him on his first expedition are diligently working at a Tibetan monastery, engaged in the process of translating ancient documents referencing the life and times of Jesus when he had passed through these mountains some nineteen hundred years prior. When Spalding’s party first arrived at the base of the Himalayas, they encountered an elderly lama, Chander Sen, who provided them with information pertinent to their ascent into the Himalayas and a map pinpointing the location of the Temple of Records where they could access those books which told of the arrival of the Prophet Isa (Jesus) in India and Tibet so long ago.
Of Chander Sen, Spalding writes, “When we had first seen him, he was a decrepit old man, leaning on a long staff for support, with long snow-white locks, halting step, and emaciated form. One in our party had remarked when we first met him, ‘Here we find among these great souls one so aged that he seems ready to pass to the great beyond.’”
Of meeting up again with the old lama, Spalding elaborates, “We had been occupied in this work of translation for about two weeks when we went to the Temple one morning and found our friend Chander Sen, who had apparently died and been resurrected, with not a vestige of old age about him. There was no mistaking him. As we came into the room, he arose and came forward with a hearty greeting and handshake. You can imagine our surprise as we gathered around and began to ask questions. We were like a gang of schoolboys turned loose, all attempting to ask questions at the same time. But the fact remained, there he was, with the unmistakable form and voice, but not a trace of old age about him. Even the voice had regained the vibrant quality of middle age and everything about him showed the quality of a well-developed life buoyant and keenly alive. The expression of the eyes and face was far beyond anything that I could put into words.”
Chander Sen thanked all the pilgrims for coming so far to work in the Temple under the supervision of Master Emil’s mother, a Master in her own right, who served beyond her role as the hostess to their party, but being their guide and instructor in learning the ancient Tibetan alphabet characters and the composition of the coherent script, which is closely linked to a broad ethnic Tibetan identity, spanning across areas in India, Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet. The Tibetan script is of Brahmic origin derived from the Gupta script of ancient India. Since they were approaching Christmas Day as it was recognized in the West, and after pointing out many Tibetan scriptures about the teachings of the Master and Prophet Isa, Chander Sen delivered a message wherein he expounded on the true meaning of that most special of holidays:
“Spirit is the supreme essence of any individual’s being. It is never diseased and never unhappy form, as that great soul Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882), says, ‘It is the finite that suffers. The infinite lies stretched in smiling repose.’ Job of your Bible told you that a human being was Spirit and the breath of the Almighty gave that person life. It is indeed the Spirit in each one which gives life and that Spirit rules that one’s lower activities. Spirit issues commands with authority and all things become subordinate to righteous rule.
“A new era wrapped in the garment of approaching day is dawning in the hearts of humankind; and soon again will the virgin Spirit of God shine forth from the heart and the door again will open, by which all who will find entrance to a larger and fuller life. Young, vibrant, with perennial youth and hope and endeavor the soul of a human being stands on the threshold of a new era, more glorious than any other that has brightened the sky since Creation’s dawn. The Star of Bethlehem shone brighter at Jesus’ birth than it had before; but soon its brightness will be like a noonday Sun, for this new light foretells the day when the Christ is born in the hearts of all humankind.”*****
