Two friends are camping in Southeastern British Columbia. While sitting by the fire, they hear grunting and growling, then later a loud crashing like a tree being pulled from the ground!
I received the following account:
"I was camping with a friend, in an area of Southeastern British Columbia with Grizzly bears, black bears, and cougars.
We were sitting at the campfire after sunset as it was just getting dark, and we heard a sort of grunting/growling noise coming from the bushes not far from our campsite. We ignored the first one or two, but after the noise kept occurring every couple of minutes it had our attention.
We went to look around to see if we could identify what was making the noise and (hopefully) scare it off. The noise continued every few minutes and eventually became louder. We assumed the source was getting closer to us, and adrenaline was pumping. It’s worth mentioning all we had on us was a knife each, as we’d forgotten to bring bear spray and didn’t have any guns with us on this trip.
Next thing we know, we hear a sound from behind us which I can only describe as an entire tree getting ripped out of the ground, split in two, and thrown to the ground again. A huge crashing noise. Then dead silence.
We sprinted back to the car and climbed inside, peering out into the darkness trying to spot any signs of movement or whatever. We couldn’t see or hear anything.
We never saw a glimpse of whatever made the noise, and the next morning we searched extensively but couldn’t even find any signs of recently broken branches or fallen trees. We did find one cougar track the next day a few hundred meters away on a sandy creek bed but I don't know if that was related to it because the creek was in a different area from the noise.
I still have no idea if it was a bear, a cougar, a Sasquatch, or something else. Needless today I didn’t sleep at all that night.
BTW, the area is well-known for Sasquatch sightings but, again, I don't know what it was." P
