A Southern California reader contacted me about her interest in the Mothman phenomenon and how she felt that she was being warned to separate her interest in the subject after seeing a huge black moth.
I received the following account from a reader:
"Hi, Lon. I had started stories about Mothman for a couple years. I delved into so many stories, starting with the history of its relation to the fall of the Silver Bridge. The most fascinating story was on your site, where this woman wrote that as a child her dad had been called down to help hunt Mothman and she and her family went along. She encountered something coming out of a forest that her playmates down there had taken her to. It was very large with chicken feet and a frightening body and face. It spoke to her telepathically to not be afraid of its visage. That night the Mothman creatures attacked the house where she was staying with her family.
I read the stories you had put up about the Chicago encounters. I was reading everything about it. Then one morning I got up, sat on the couch, and noticed a large black moth on my screen door with its wings spread wide. I had never seen a black moth in Southern California before and I felt like it was a warning to stop delving into the Mothman stories. As the little girl in the story had found out it could communicate with her telepathically, I believed the moth to be a warning to lay off the investigation, so I did." NH
NOTE: It is interesting how many folks contacted me about their affinity with the Mothman phenomenon. Several of the Chicago Mothman witnesses expressed similar feelings as if they were imprinted by their encounter, and sometimes a feeling of dread and foreboding remains afterward. Lon
