South Dakota Reader Confirms MONSTROUS-SIZED-WOLVES Killed in the Region

An eastern South Dakota resident attests that there has been a trend in the past decade of monstrous-sized wolves with unusual features killed by hunters.

I received the following information:

"Hi, Lon. I've been reading a few of your cryptid canine posts. I can attest to the real wolf overpopulation problem that Minnesota has been having for the last decade. We have seen a massive resurgence in their population here. It started here (South Dakota) on my end of the state, literally 5 minutes from the border of Minnesota. But over the years I have family members right near the border of Montana and Wyoming telling me about record-sized wolves that have been shot by neighbors or friends.

Some of the pictures my brother has shown me from his hunting buddy are terrifying. I literally did not know that they could get that big. As well, the features are very different than regular quadruped Timberwolves. All that having been said I have to note two things. Every up-close encounter in my state has been brief. They are very used to being hunted by man and as such tend to fear us. The kills that have occurred (at least to the best of my knowledge) have been at moderate or extreme distances. Most of the kills were made by teenagers or farmers who were just trying to make a quick buck on coyote pelts or keeping calving herds safe, only to come up on the corpse and find that it was much too large to be the average canine that they thought they were bagging.

I bring all this up not just to point out the normal behavior patterns that have been observed in my area but to also note that a fair number of people in this area of the country, especially those who have to live in the more rural areas have been taught from early childhood how to identify these types of Indigenous threats. I stress this because, in reality, there are only 3 main threats that we are taught to deal with in slightly different ways.

The body profile of a bear is different from both mountain lions and coyotes. Spotting it was something that was literally drilled into me from an early age as it's the only threat that you have to react radically differently to. I wasn't not alone in this practice it a fairly common in the part of the country. Not saying one way or another if what he witnessed was real but I just cannot believe that someone in this part of the country would mistake a bear's head for a dog's. Even in the larger towns, it's too much of an agricultural community for people to not note the difference, even if it was a quick glance." T
