A Romanian reader forwarded her account and experience in a venerable castle while visiting with her grade school class. She commented on the intense feelings of grief and evil.
I received the following information:
"Hello. Back in grade school, my grade took a 3-day field trip to visit some of the historical places in my country. It was at Iulia Hasdeu Castle in Romania. The castle was built by her father after her death according to strict instructions she had given him beyond the grave. Most of this is just the stuff of legend and superstition; just like the Winchester House in California, this house was the result of a broken, grieving human being who couldn't cope with the pain, the loss, the guilt, etc.
However, I do believe her father dabbled in the occult there, spiritism was very popular in the 19th century and he was known for being into this kind of stuff. Now, there's a possibility the house may be haunted by something dark or evil that was brought there, or it might just be overcharged with the negative energy of a slightly insane father who grieved his death - there are a lot of rumors, local legends, and such.
It isn't exactly known what this man has done in that house, but the house has the most horrible vibe I've ever felt. The energy there was dark and heavy, the air was thick and almost unbreathable and the overall atmosphere was divided between overwhelming grief and malice.
I constantly felt like something was following close behind me, from the moment I entered the house and I could feel light breathing on my neck. Some of my schoolmates and teachers felt it too.
The worst room in that house was the ballroom though. It was also the only part of the house that hadn't yet been renovated, so everything there was exactly as it was when the writer and his family lived there. The whole house was dark and heavy but this room was unbearable. If there was some sort of entity in there I think that was where it had nested. The atmosphere was different there as well - if grief was the dominant feeling in the rest of the house, in this room it was malice.
The yard was better but still unpleasant and if you looked towards the house you could feel thousands of eyes staring back at you from the windows.
I usually love exploring, especially old places and buildings, but I was very happy to be out of there. Thank you for your writing. I have learned a lot of great information." E
