Two friends are spending nights in a south-central Pennsylvania forest area when they find a large, unusual canine-like print. They had heard bipedal sounds during their first night there.
I received the following account which I followed up with a phone call:
"Me and a good friend worked nights during the coronavirus shutdown, and while our job was closed we would just go walk around the woods all night since we were both outdoorsmen. We live in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania
One night I find a dump of antique bottles, all from the 1930s-1960s by the foundation of what I assume was an abandoned outside kitchen. I’m happily digging away and putting all the ones I like in a box. We bring this box out of the trees and put it in my car which is parked at the end of an abandoned service road. I turn off my headlamp and walk around the side of my car to my buddy poking at a large spider on the ground, it’s at this time with both our backs to the trees we hear a large bipedal run beelining it straight for us from just inside the trees. We dove into my car and sped off, almost leaving my friend behind because I had already had the car on and foot on the gas before he even opened the door all the way.
We go back to his place and discuss what we heard. We didn’t see anything because I didn’t have any handheld lights on and my headlights were off when we initially sped off. Thankful I didn’t hit a tree. We go back to that spot about an hour later with long guns looking for anything. Didn’t find or hear anything else.
About a week later in another part of the woods but not very far away from that encounter we found a footprint on an anthill of a 4 claw-toed print that was about as long and more wide than my size 10 boot. This was in an area where black bears are only seen. And I’m originally from Colorado and have been stalked by bears before, one followed me for 30 minutes before on a hike. I know how bears operate. I don’t believe it was a bear. A person in the initial encounter would make some sense but I don’t know why they wouldn’t yell or just shoot us if we happened to be trespassing. And if it was a person that chased us that still doesn’t explain the print we found. We went back to the area a handful of times. It was there for about a week before rain made it unrecognizable. I solo hike there in the day sometimes still but never at night. And I never go back out there without a rifle. Scary encounter. Don’t want to do it again." S
NOTE: I contacted the witness, who lives just 40 miles west of me. The area where this occurred was west of Michaux State Forest not far off of US 30. He described the print to me. It definitely was not a black bear after I saw the photo (he did not give me permission to post or distribute the photo). It was not a bear double print either. If I had to guess, I'd say that it was canine-like. The print was deep in the looming forest soil and was about 11 inches long and more narrow than a human foot. This is a location where cryptid canine reports, as well as Bigfoot sightings, have occurred. Lon
