PHANTOMS & MONSTERS NEWS: 'UNIQUE SOUND' Heard At LOCH NESS - Government Won't Acknowledge AREA 52 - Alaskan MOOSE Kills Photographer

'UNIQUE SOUND' Heard At LOCH NESS

Nessie hunters uncovered an "unexplainable sound" emitting from the depths of Loch Ness as they took part in a search for the 'monster'. Hundreds of Nessie enthusiasts converged on the loch last week to scour the 23-mile-long body of water for any unusual activity.

Experts using a hydrophone to listen for mysterious sounds echoing from the depths of the loch captured a "unique noise" coming from the bottom. Alan McKenna from Loch Ness Exploration discovered the sound which he described as "a rhythmic pulsing that lasted about 10 seconds".

He will now isolate the noise in an attempt to identify the source. In another exciting development, 11-year-old Evelyn Murphy captured a potential sighting with an intriguing photo, showing a clear break in the water made by an unidentified object or creature. Government Won't Acknowledge AREA 52

In the mid-1980s, Air Force technician Mark Ely's job was to inspect secretly obtained Soviet fighter jets.

The work carried out in hidden hangers known as hush houses, was part of a classified mission in the Nevada desert, 140 miles outside of Las Vegas at the Tonopah Test Range — sometimes referred to as Area 52. The mission was so under wraps that Ely said he had to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

"Upholding the national interest was more important than my own life," Ely told CBS News, and that's not just talk.

Ely was in his 20s and physically fit when he was working at the secret base. Now 63 and living in Naperville, Illinois, he's confronting life-threatening consequences from the radiation he says he was exposed to.

For decades, the U.S. government conducted nuclear bomb tests near Area 52. According to a 1975 federal environmental assessment, those tests scattered toxic radioactive material nearby. Alaskan MOOSE Kills Photographer

A 70-year-old Alaska man who was attempting to take photos of two newborn moose calves was attacked and killed by their mother, authorities said Monday.

The man killed Sunday was identified as Dale Chorman of Homer, said Austin McDaniel, a spokesperson for the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

The female moose had recently given birth to the calves in Homer.

“As they were walking through the brush looking for the moose, that’s when the cow moose attacked Dale,” McDaniel said.

The attack happened as the two were running away, he said. The second man, who has not been publicly identified, was uninjured. Read more at Moose kills Alaska man attempting to take photos of her newborn calves
