English sisters were driving along the North Yorkshire coast road by the moorland when they encountered a large black dog with supernatural red eyes. They quickly get away from the beast!
I received the following account:
"In 2015 myself and my sister took a little road trip across the coast road in North Yorkshire so we could visit Whitby and other seaside places like that. It was a typical trip, stop for food, take some photos, and before we knew it, it was getting late. So of course we start heading home which must've been around 40 miles away across the moorland.
Anyway we're driving slowly along the moor top, it's dark and a warm evening, it was June so it had gotten rather late to be dark. As we were going across the moorland a mist appeared in front of the car, we rationally thought it was moorland, it's damp, and high-up stuff like this always happens.
As we passed through the mist we saw something running away from the car, my sister had slowed down because of the mist so we could see this large black dog running away from the car. We slow down even more because we don't want to frighten the dog and cause it to hurt itself by falling into a ditch or running back into the car.
But as we slow down it stops. We stop and it turns around. Its eyes were so red we just stared before we said, 'Nope. We're not sticking around,' and my sister managed to shunt the car around it and speed off.
It continued looking all the time we sped off and I think it followed for a bit.
When we got home we both knew we had probably seen a Barghest so we were obviously freaked but also a little bit curious, so we tried going back out a few weeks later but saw nothing." B
NOTE: In Northern English folklore, the Barghest or Barguest is a mythical monstrous black dog with large teeth and claws, though in other cases the name can refer to a ghost or household elf. Lon
