A reader details a few unexplained occurrences that his relative experienced while living in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, including a sonic boom and disembodied voices.
I received the following account from a reader:
"Hello. I have enjoyed reading your posts on strange things in the Appalachian Mountains. As someone who lives in a more suburban part of the West Virginia Appalachians, I can tell you that up in the mountains where my uncle used to live, odd things have happened.
Can't recall which order they happened in, but there are two that I remember my cousin Chad and my uncle Kenny talking about that happened about 10 years ago.
One night my uncle, aunt, and two cousins were just relaxing in their home on the hill when all of a sudden they heard a huge bang as if a sonic boom had exploded over their house. This could be explained by the fact that there may have been an aircraft flying over or something landing on the roof, but the thing is none of his neighbors heard it and he checked the roof and yard and nothing was there.
The next was with my cousin Chad. One day at the same house while his folks were out (can't recall where my other cousin was but anyway), he was brushing his teeth in the bathroom when, out of nowhere, a loud, grunting disembodied voice yelled right into his ear from behind him. Needless to say, he was freaked out and hauled ass out of there and was outside until his folks got home.
I've told the whole ordeal to people but skeptics are kinda closed minded anyway and they just write it off as there is a logical explanation for it. Yeah, okay. The day science can explain disembodied voices that appear out of thin air is probably the day we will have discovered faster-than-light travel. Also, he comes from a very self-contained and down-to-earth background and, aside from the occasional puff of weed, doesn't do any drugs that I know of.
As I've said this happened about 15 years ago and they've long since moved on from that property. I don't know who lives there now but this is just one paranormal incident that I can recall happening to people I know who live in this region. I'm sure there's countless more to be told." N
