A Mexican mother is driving near their farm when she suddenly veers the truck into a ditch to avoid hitting a Chaneque or goblin-like being that had crossed the rural road.
The following account was forwarded to me:
"I was around 11 at the time, and we lived on a farm in the countryside, Paso del Toro (Bull's pass) in the Mexican state of Veracruz, East Coast of Mexico. We were coming back home from my school, which was some 10 minutes away from the farm, and my mom was singing to the tune of Lost in Love by Air Supply when she suddenly hit the brakes and drove the truck into a ditch, she was terrified, screaming that she had almost killed him.
What? She saw a small child-looking entity, but it was dressed in old formal clothes, a black suit, and one of those round hats from the 1800s, and she saw it running from between the bushes to the right side and into the ditch on the left, and when she got out she just heard laughing, but there was no one there.
Later on, one of the farmhands told my mom that it was a Chaneque and that it was a common occurrence in those parts, that they were not inherently evil, but they were mischievous. They were similar (or may even be the same, just from another latitude) as Pixies, they are child-looking (In some accounts, like my mom's) and they like to lead people astray, you should wear a shirt or sweater upside down to get rid of them, etc. Just found it curious for all the similarities it has with Pixies. (BTW, this entity had coal-black skin like really black, but even though his smile [or what she managed to see of it] was mischievous, she didn't think it was evil)" C
