A young Polk County, Florida man recalls his bizarre sighting of a cryptid canine creature near his home in Davenport, Florida. It was huge and fast, leaping incredible distances.
I received the following account:
"Hey! In 2006 I saw the backside of a huge dog creature. I say huge, it could have just been a really big wild dog in the swamps outside Davenport, Florida. I only caught a glimpse of it and it kind of looked like Scooby-Doo the way it was running; it was about waist high to me and I'm 6'6". The image I have of it in my mind is from the back and it was like a tangle of limbs flying past me within 10 feet.
We had just got back from Christmas shopping and I was helping my mom get my baby sister out of the car when the creature ran from my grandparent's backyard which was directly on a causeway in a boating community.
My stepdad yells, "Hey!" It flew past us! It was a blur as it went by. My stepdad got the best look at it before it got moving. He saw its face and all he's ever been able to tell me is that it looked like a big German Shepherd. But in literally 2 seconds, I saw it dive across what was easily an 8-foot ravine, both horizontally and vertically, up the hill and over an alligator-infested creek and into the bushes and trees and marshland on the other side.
Then we shined a flashlight over there and could only see a reddish-orange glow of the eye shine. There was a streetlight pointing in the direction of the house plus the porch light and motion light in the driveway there so it made it harder to see when it took cover. I could barely make out a big round head in the darkness, but I remember it seeming high off the ground for a dog. We stared at it for at least a full minute and then it turned away and we went inside. I wanted to keep looking but I didn't want to stand out there alone.
True story, maybe not a cryptid but I'm convinced they're real. The world is a strange place." L

What is a Werewolf? In European folklore, it is a human who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. It is said that some werewolves change shape at will; others, in whom the condition is hereditary or acquired by having been bitten by a werewolf, change shape involuntarily, and under the influence of a full moon.
In French folklore, the werewolf is called Loup-Garou. France was particularly afflicted with reports of them in the 16th century, and there were many notable convictions and executions of Loups-Garous.
The werewolf phenomenon may have a medical explanation. Take Peter the Wild Boy, for instance. In 1725, he was found wandering naked on all fours through a German forest. Many thought he was a werewolf or at least raised by wolves. Research has shown Peter likely had Pitt-Hopkins syndrome, a condition discovered in 1978 that causes a lack of speech, seizures, distinct facial features, difficulty breathing, and intellectual challenges.
Lycanthropy is a rare psychiatric condition that causes people to believe they’re changing into a wolf or another animal.
Throughout the centuries, people have used werewolves and other mythic beasts to explain the unexplained. In modern times, however, most believe werewolves are nothing more than pop culture horror icons, made famous thanks to Hollywood’s versions of the Wolf Man, portrayed by my namesake Lon Chaney, Jr. Still, werewolves have a cult following. Sightings are reported each year, as evidence of what I am presenting to you.
