By Stephen Ellis - There is an ancient axiom: If you truly believe something, no amount of documentation or proof will ever alter your belief. The same thing is true if you “don’t” believe something.
The case of consciousness living beyond your physical life-span is extremely well documented. In the case to be described, it is absolute! This does not mean you will not concoct some extraneous reasoning to disbelieve it. It is the case of Bruce Kelly.
Our five senses which make up life as we know it do not function when someone is hypnotized into a really deep sleep. Our mind (in whatever dimension it is) has senses of its own and exists in a dimension that none of our five senses can detect. A deeply hypnotized subject can look directly at “King Kong” and if the hypnotist has told the subject that the monster ape is the most beautiful and desirable creature in the entire world…that’s what the subject will see. His (her) optic nerves will be overridden by the hypnotist’s command.
Really deep hypnosis also seems to override the memory banks in our brain. Few of us who have lived for fifty years or more will remember the name of our first-grade teacher. Or the boy (or girl) who sat in front of us in the fourth grade…no less the presents we may have received for our third birthday. But, under deep hypnosis, these hidden memories are often brought to the front of the mind and we remember things that, under normal conditions, would never be remembered. Sometimes we even remember lives we lived before being born!
There are actually hundreds of soundly documented cases about this, but the one I am going to present is being presented because (a) it is completely detail-documented, (b) it was written up in the American Journal of Regressive Hypnotherapy in 1991, and (c) several friends, family and associates of the deceased party were still alive, contacted and asked to verify the facts and details spoken by the hypnotic subject, Bruce Kelly, while hypnotized.
Born in 1953, Bruce Kelly always had a persistent fear of airplanes and of the ocean. In 1987, Bruce, who had been a successful salesman for men’s furnishings, decided to try to understand why he had these severe phobias about flying and swimming in the ocean. He went for psychological counselling and the counsellor recommended that Bruce go to see a certified hypnotherapist.
The hypnotherapist slowly, over several sessions, brought Bruce into a very deep hypnotic sleep and regressed Bruce back through his childhood to see if there was some explanation or incident that would reveal what the cause was for his extreme phobias.
In one of his deepest sleeps, Bruce began complaining about a sharp pain in his chest. When asked about it, Bruce said “I’m on a submarine and I’m dying”. The hypnotherapist, having regressed other subjects, asked Bruce to identify himself. Bruce replied “Edward Allen Johnson”. The therapist then asked for details such as his date of birth, where he lived, what his occupation was, etc. The transcripts of the therapist’s interview are more than slightly amazing:
According to what Bruce Kelly said, it seems that Edward Allen Johnson was a crew member of the submarine “Shark” in WWII. As told to his therapist, the “Shark” was based in Manilla in 1942 (just prior to the Japanese taking the Philippines) and its job was to destroy or disrupt the Japanese shipping which was bringing more Japanese weapons to the Philippines. When attacking Japanese shipping, the “Shark” was located by a Japanese destroyer which started dropping depth-charges…one of which caught the “Shark” in its mid-section and sent it to the bottom of the ocean.
While under very deep hypnosis, Bruce Kelly (speaking as Edward Allen Johnson) described what happened when the shell of the submarine “Shark” was ripped-off by the depth charge. How he and the other crewmembers tried to reach the escape hatch but were crushed by the force of the water rushing into the submarine…and how they all died.
When Bruce was awakened he remembered absolutely none of what was said. He had never been on a submarine and he had not been born until eight years after the end of WWII. In 1991 the interior of commercial airliners was very much like the interior of a submarine suggesting an explanation for Kelly’s unnatural fear of flying. He had never noted that the interior of a passenger airliner closely resembles the shape and interior of a submarine as Kelly had never been on or even near a submarine. When the hypnotherapist explained to Bruce Kelly what had been said, it took time, but it cleared Kelly’s mind and he began to live a more normal life. His fear of airplanes and the ocean subsided.
Due to unusual nature of his experience with Bruce Kelly, the hypnotherapist felt it was imperative to check out what Bruce (speaking as Johnson) had said. The therapist found that, in fact, there was a submarine called the “Shark” in WWII. One of its crew members was, in fact, Edward Allen Johnson and it had been sunk by a depth charge from the Japanese destroyer “Amatsukaze” on February 11, 1942.
Armed with this information, the therapist retrieved details about Johnson’s tenure with the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed, where his home had been and who some of his friends might have been. Absolutely everything said by Bruce Kelly while under hypnosis was verified.
Logic dictates that we should try to answer an even bigger question: Was Bruce Kelly a reincarnation of Edward Allen Johnson…or…while under hypnosis was the mind of Edward Allan Johnson able to communicate with the hypnotized mind of Bruce Kelly?
It doesn’t make any difference: Whether it was a reincarnation of Edward Allen Johnson speaking or whether it was the consciousness of a deceased Johnson speaking through Bruce Kelly, either way it becomes conclusive proof that the consciousness of the living does not die when the body dies.
