Daily 2 Cents: 'X-Files' Reboot Possible -- Looking For Scottish Bigfoot -- Rare, Terrifying Frilled Shark Caught

Fox confirms 'X-Files' reboot talks

Fox’s new agenda is looking a lot like their old one. Confirming some prior reports, the network’s leadership says they are seriously chasing a reboot of The X-Files and are possibly interested in bringing back Prison Break too (along with yet another edition of 24 as well — but that’s another story).

On The X-Files front, Fox chairman and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman say they have been in talks with series creator Chris Carter about reviving the supernatural procedural, which was a major hit for the network from 1993 to 2002. The executives also revealed they hope to have original series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles on the show.

One thing all three titles have in common is they’re properties of 20th Century Fox Television, which Walden and Newman ran prior to adding the Fox broadcast network to their plate last year.

“It’s true that we’ve had some conversations on X-Files,” Newman said. “We’re hopeful of being able to bring that back at some point.”

Walden added: “Gary and I both worked [at 20th Century Fox Television] through the entire run of The X Files. It was a great experience. We’ve maintained good relationships with Chris, David and Gillian. We’re very hopeful, but it’s hard. The actors are very busy. They have a lot going on. Chris has a lot on his plate, so it’s just trying to carve out the time.”

Amazon recently declined to make Carter’s new post-apocalyptic series project The After, so the writer-producer may be more open to revisiting his past. More problematic is that Duchovny has an upcoming NBC event series, Aquarius, while Anderson has a recurring role on NBC’s Hannibal. Both actors would presumably have to get contractually clear of their commitments to Fox’s rival before signing onto an X-Files relaunch. - InsideTv.EW

Looking For Scottish Bigfoot

A woman who claims to have seen a Scottish yeti as a child has signed on to hunt for evidence of the creatures around the world.

Charmaine Fraser, 41, has joined the British Bigfoot Research team as they look to prove the existence of the mysterious creatures.

Charmaine says she spotted a 7ft bigfoot as a child and since then she’s been fascinated by all things Sasquatch - gathering details of 200 reports of the creatures in Britain, including 50 in Scotland.

Her interest in the subject was sparked after she saw a “large black figure” with no neck and broad shoulders while walking her gran’s dog in remote woodland near Arbroath, Angus, as a child.

She saw a similar creature in the same area shortly afterwards and recalls how it had a “humanoid shape” and eyes that shone orange when headlights picked it out in the darkness.

She also heard a “long, deep wail” in the same woods and thinks it could have been the call of the as yet undiscovered animal.

Mum-of-one Charmaine, who has a degree in psychology from St Andrews University, said: “I saw a large black figure with its back to me.

“It was reaching up to a branch on a tree at the side of the track and was about 7ft tall, thick build with no neck and wide shoulders.

“I didn’t hang about to see its face.”

Her childhood account was dismissed at the time but she now knows she wasn’t the only one to find odd goings-on in the woods.

She said: “My sister found a den in the woods with animal skulls arranged in a semi-circle. That was several years after my sighting.

“I know a lot of people will dismiss this but it does seem to be happening to people.

“If anyone wants to come forward they can talk to us.

“We give everyone the benefit of the doubt.”

Over the years there have been a number of Bigfoot encounters in the US. Last week it was claimed a Bigfoot had been spotted in a Lincolnshire wood.

Charmaine said: “The most popular theory is they are a hominid species related to humans. We believe they exist. It’s just about finding evidence.” - Edinburgh News

Huge Great White Sharks forces Aussie beach closures

Numerous shark sightings near Newcastle in Australia have been keeping beachgoers out of the water.

Located around 160km north of Sydney, Newcastle's beaches are a popular destination for swimmers, surfers and sunbathers.

This month however the region has been plagued by a spate of uninvited guests in the form of great white sharks that have prompted authorities to close beaches down for days at a time.

The largest by far, which has been nicknamed 'Bruce', measures five meters long and weighs the same as two Volkswagen Beetles.

"This great white shark is of a size that has not been seen before around Newcastle," said a council spokesman. "It is not safe for anyone to be in the water.”

Bruce is not the only shark to have been sighted in the area this week either - visitors to nearby Nobbys Beach reported a second great white and three more were also spotted near Merewether.

Elsewhere a couple sitting on a wall in Newcastle harbour reported seeing a "dark shadow" approaching them from beneath the water while two fisherman filmed themselves being hunted by yet another great white as it ominously circled their small boat out in the open sea.

Despite the dangers however shark attack deaths are actually still quite rare even in Australia with only one person being killed by a shark each year on average.

Whether or not the risk of coming face to face with one of these prehistoric behemoths however will be enough to keep people out of the water this summer remains to be seen. Read more at The Guardian

Rare and terrifying Frilled Shark caught

The hideous, mildly terrifying and rarely sighted frilled shark has turned up in waters off south-eastern Victoria.

The species, whose ancestry dates back 80 million years, is known as the 'living fossil'.

It was caught on a fishing trawler in waters near Lakes Entrance in the state's Gippsland region.

Simon Boag, from the South East Trawl Fishing Association, said it was the first time in living memory that a frilled shark had been sighted.

"We couldn't find a fisherman who had ever seen one before," he said.

"It does look 80 million years old. It looks prehistoric, it looks like it's from another time!"

He said local fishermen were left scratching their heads at the sight of the two-metre-long creature, whose head and body resemble an eel, but whose tail is more reminiscent of a shark.

The CSIRO confirmed it to be a frilled shark, and while the species is known to the scientific community, it was a nonetheless rare and bizarre find for local fishermen.

"It has 300 teeth over 25 rows, so once you're in that mouth, you're not coming out," Mr Boag said.

"Good for dentists, but it is a freaky thing. I don't think you would want to show it to little children before they went to bed."

The species has been found as deep as 1,500 metres, but generally it lives in waters shallower than 1,200 metres.

Mr Boag said this frilled shark was caught at 700 metres, but there should not be any concern about repeat catches.

"Almost all the grounds deeper than 700 metres are closed to trawling, so there wouldn't be any pressure on them and there'd be very few caught," he said.

"This guy was just unlucky."

After being declined by the CSIRO, the frilled shark is believed to have now been sold. - ABC.net.au
