Update: 'Man-Beast' - Gregory County, SD

Researcher and colleague Jack Cary recently investigated the area of this sighting and offered the following:

Good Morning Lon, Just wanted to give you a brief update on my brief investigation into the spot where the Man Beast was seen. That area is very very remote with only a few ranch homesteads, mostly raising Angus. This area is like a little mountain paradise with the Missouri river running right through it. According to Linda Godfrey and a few other Dog Men researchers, there are always three things present when they are sighted. 1. Corn fields 2. Water 3. A native American presence. All three of these things are present in this area. That is not to conclude that it was a Dog Man but it is an interesting aspect of the spot of the sighting. Thanks, Jack

Here are a few photos he gathered:

The following is the original report:

Hello - on Wednesday evening (June 18th) about dusk, I was driving north on RT 1806 and very near the intersection with RT 44. The coordinates are 43.375838, -99.191321. I don't know what the area is known as but it is near the Missouri River bridge on RT 44.

As I drove towards the intersection, there are a group of trees near the roadway on the left. It was not completely dark yet, but I had my headlights on. I noticed sudden movement on the shoulder to my left, then something large crossed the road about 50 ft. in front of my truck and jumped into a gully on the right of me. I caught a quick look at an upright "man-beast". This is the best I can describe it. It was tall and powerful, sparse patches of dark fur, very dark or black skin with a man's face. That is all I saw of it. It stood about 7 foot, maybe more.

I pull onto the shoulder after I had turned right at the intersection. I stood at my door looking back in the direction this "man-beast" left the road. I had a weird sensation, and a little scared. I got back into my truck and continued on my way home.

I included some Google Map images of the area.

I described my sighting to my friend in Minnesota. He's an outdoorsman and a Bigfoot hunter. We both agree that this was not a Bigfoot. He mentioned "Dogman", which I never heard of. It didn't really look like a dog (no snout or tail), but I'm sure it wasn't a Bigfoot.

I found your website but I didn't find anything that matched what I saw.

I've heard of a few Sioux tales, but nothing like what I saw. I'd really like to know what it was. Landon S.

NOTE: The witness stated, after I contacted him, that there was no further information that he could provide other than it had a 'shiny glean'...almost like it had oil on it. I did find out that the sighting was in Gregory County, SD. He lives approximately 140 miles from the location and has no intention of going back to investigate. I have heard of a few werewolf descriptions in which the face was more human than canine...but this particular 'beast' has a different bearing to it. I have no clue as to what the witness encountered...other than it was human-like. Any suggestions? Lon

UPDATE: An associate forwarded this report from the BFRO website. Looks to be in the same area. Lon
