Odds & Ends: Psychic Channels Da Vinci to Contact Spirits -- UFO Distress Signal Creates Panic -- Olinguito...New Mammal Species

Psychic channels Da Vinci to contact spirits

A mother bound in a spiral of depression found no way to overcome her emotions until she met a psychic artist who claims to channel the spirit of Leonardo Da Vinci.

Sandy Ingham, 66, who lives in Perranwell Station, claims the spirit of Da Vinci acts through her hands to draw pictures of people who have died.

With a stick of charcoal in each hand, Sandy, who said she has never had any artistic training, explained how the spirit helps her draw detailed pictures of her clients' deceased family members. Sandy is also a medium and can talk to the spirits.

For Suzanne Standen, 44, talking to Sandy was the only way she could get over her postnatal depression and the death of her father.

Mrs Standen said: "After the birth of my son, Daniel, I couldn't shake the depression. Then, just weeks after he was born, my father Brian died aged 69. It sent me into a spiral of depression.

"I tried speaking with doctors but nothing worked."

When Suzanne, a former investment banker, walked into her first session with Sandy, there was a piece of paper on the table ready.

After a brief chat, Sandy turned it over to reveal a drawing of Suzanne's father. It was likened to a photograph taken years ago that Suzanne said there is no way Sandy could have seen.

"I was blown away," said Suzanne, "and after talking with Sandy I felt my depression lift."

Talking to the West Birton, Sandy said she only realised six years ago that she had the gift of speaking with "the artist" and those who have died.

"I would go into a trance-like state and start drawing random things on bits of paper," she said.

Sandy also operates a tele-psychic service. Clients can call her and Sandy will enter her trance and draw a picture and post it to them.

"Sometimes people do not recognise the drawing but then they'll show it to their mother or relative and they will say, 'yes that's a picture of so and so from 40 years ago'. They'll pull out an old picture and it's a spitting image of the one I have drawn.

"I don't know what I am drawing. I close my eyes, put my head down and after five minutes, there it is."

Sandy now plans to tour Cornwall.

Suzanne said: "It's a type of therapy. There are sceptics. But any form of counselling that helps with grief must be good." - This is Corwall

Distress signal from UFO creates panic in Siberia

An active search for a mysterious aircraft that sent distress signals is ongoing in the republic of Buryatia. This signal came from Kurumkansky district and was recorded by a dispatcher of the Coordination Search and Rescue Centre at Novosibirsk airport Tolmachevo. An Honored Military Pilot of the USSR Semyon Pritykov commented on the situation for Pravda.Ru.

Rescue workers and police of Kurumkansky district of Buryatia have to deal with dense taiga in their search for the source of the signal as this area is considered real backwoods. Meanwhile, local authorities interview people in the region. The residents of the nearby settlements claim that they have not seen or heard anything. An appearance of a plane or helicopter in this area is an event, and people would have remembered.

An exotic theory that some alien UFO crashed in the woods does not hold water. The alarm signal was sent from a completely terrestrial radio beacon of a system installed on a variety of aircraft, mainly domestic. It was sent on the airwaves of the range considered a "hazard zone" as no one has the right to broadcast through them unless something extraordinary happens. Meanwhile, signals from emergency beacons continue to arrive, albeit with intervals. The search for the unknown aircraft continues, but so far it has been futile.

Russian history knows quite a few mysterious catastrophes, often involving well-known people in the country. No one is immune to tragedy. For example, a famous surgeon, ophthalmologist, academician Svyatoslav Fyodorov died on June 2, 2000 in a crash of Eurocopter Gazelle helicopter that belonged to his clinic. Fyodorov was returning from a conference in Tambov.

The aircraft crashed on a vacant lot near Bratsevo at the Moscow Ring Road. Four people were on board: Fyodorov and his pilot Anatoly Lobov in the front seats, and navigator Anvar Huseynov and engineer of IRTC "Eye Microsurgery" Alexander Spiridonov in the rear seats. All four were killed. At the conclusion of a special commission, the cause of the crash was identified as a technical failure of the helicopter. However, questions still remain.

There are more recent plane crashes as well. On July 2, 2013 in Ust-Yanskiy district of Yakutia in the vicinity of Deputatsky village, Mi-8T "Polar Airlines" helicopter crashed, and 24 people were killed. The area was foggy and rainy, but the commander decided to take off. Later the investigation found that when the alarm signaling a dangerous proximity to the ground went off, the helicopter crew switched to the climb mode and tried to fly over the hill that emerged in their way.

However, in flight the top of the aircraft hit the downward flow of air, tilted, and then its tail rotor caught the hill. The Mi-8 lost control and fell on the slope. Only the crew captain has survived. He managed to contact the dispatcher and report the incident. Three other passengers have survived as well.

On May 6, 2013 in the Katanga district of Irkutsk region, six kilometers from the village Preobrazhenka, a Mi-8T helicopter crashed, killing nine people. The helicopter was used for flood protection activities that included an inspection of the area and ice explosions.

An Honored Military Pilot of the USSR Semyon Pritykov commented on the situation for Pravda.Ru.

"No matter how experienced a pilot is, how well coordinated the crew is, no matter how safe an aircraft seems, you can never break the flight rules. As for the situation with an unidentified aircraft that sent a distress signal in Buryatia, I will say that if no one knew of the flight, it was obviously not registered in advance with relevant authorities, and no permission to fly was issued. Excessive self-confidence in the air sooner or later leads to tragedy. Hopefully, of course, the crew or the passengers of the aircraft are alive, but they shouldn't have done it. The main rule in the air is the strictest discipline." - Pravda

Olinguito, New Mammal Species, Announced By Smithsonian Researchers

Imagine a mini-raccoon with a teddy bear face that is so cute it's hard to resist, let alone overlook. But somehow science did – until now.

Researchers announced Thursday a rare discovery of a new species of mammal called the olinguito. The reddish-brown animal is about 14-inches long with an equally long tail and weighs about 2 pounds.

It belongs to a grouping of large creatures that include dogs, cats and bears.

The critter leaps through the trees of mountainous forests of Ecuador and Colombia at night, according to a Smithsonian researcher who has spent the past decade tracking them.

But the adorable olinguito (oh-lihn-GEE'-toe) shouldn't have been so hard to find. One of them once lived in the Smithsonian-run National Zoo in Washington for a year in a case of mistaken identity.

"It's been kind of hiding in plain sight for a long time" despite its extraordinary beauty, said Kristofer Helgen, the Smithsonian's curator of mammals.

The little zoo critter, named Ringerl, was mistaken for a sister species, the olingo. Before she died in 1976, Ringerl was shipped from zoo to zoo in Louisville, Ky., Tucson, Ariz., Salt Lake City, Washington and New York City to try to get it to breed with other olingos.

She wouldn't.

"It turns out she wasn't fussy," Helgen said. "She wasn't the right species."

The discovery is described in a study in the journal ZooKey.

Helgen first figured olinguitos were different from olingos when he was looking at pelts and skeletons in a museum. He later led a team to South America in 2006.

"When we went to the field we found it in the very first night," said study co-author Roland Kays of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. "It was almost like it was waiting for us."

It's hard to figure how olingos and onlinguitos were confused for each other.

"How is it different? In almost every way that you can look at it," Helgen said.

Olinguitos are smaller, have shorter tails, a rounder face, tinier ears and darker bushier fur, he said.

"It looks kind of like a fuzzball ... kind of like a cross between a teddy bear and a house cat," Helgen said.

It eats fruit and has one baby at a time. Helgen figures there are thousands of olinguitos in the mountainous forest, traveling through the trees at night which makes them hard to see.

While new species are found regularly, usually they are tiny things like insects and not mammals, the warm-blooded advanced class of animals that have hair, live births and mammary glands in females.

Outside experts said this discovery is not merely renaming something, but a genuine new species – with three new subspecies. It's the type of significant find that hasn't happened in the Americas for about 35 years.

"Most people believe there are no new species to discover, particularly of relatively large charismatic animals," said Case Western Reserve University anatomy professor Darin Croft. "This study demonstrates that this is clearly not the case."

The olinguito is the smallest member of the raccoon family of mammals.

The researchers only saw olinguitos in Ecuador and Colombia, but they said they could also be living in parts of Panama, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, and Guyana, based on their cloud forest habitat.

The olingo is also native to Central and South America.

The North Carolina museum is already selling olinguito stuffed animals for about $15. Proceeds will benefit habitat preservation for the creatures. - THP

Disembodied Voice in Vehicle

Dear Lon, really enjoy your site and various articles.

We had unusual experience once n late 1981.. I was in USMC, stationed 29 Palms, Ca.

My wife, small daughter and I were out on Sat to San Bernadino for a drive.

On return trip I stopped at bare intersection to turn left toward a service station about 150 yards from our position.

I was driving an old Pinto runabout (Marines usually being poor folk). No A/C and windows open when at the turn I heard a sultry sounding female adult voice distinctly say at the right door "Hi there". I was surprised and looked thinking to see a hitchhiker-no one was there. I asked my wife (who was reading a book) Did you just hear that?

She replied yes - someone just said "hi there".

Never could figure that one out. I remember thinking: only in California!

Only my brother has heard this story until now.

Take care BB

NOTE: Some of us will occasionally be recognized by a spirit with enough energy to project a disembodied voice. The fact that both you and your wife heard this voice in a moving vehicle makes the incident noteworthy. There may have been an fatal accident near the area where this voice was heard. Lon
