Man survives for years on all-water diet
A 22-year-old man in Henan Province has managed to survive solely by drinking 15 kilograms of water a day - without ever eating a bite of food.
The man, Ning Xuefa, maintains that he established this unusual habit as a child.
"As a student, I would always attend school with a huge bottle of water, but I wouldn't ever touch food," he said.
After he dropped out of school when he was 14, he moved to Shenzhen, Guangdong Province to work as a manual laborer, but his weak body and frail constitution failed him time and again.
His father backed up the story that his son only drinks water and never touches a single scrap of food, including rice or steamed bread. - globaltimes

Scientists looking for underground extraterrestrials
As the search for signs of life on Mars gathers pace, scientists may soon be able to turn their focus on a whole new group of planets.
For they have found that there are in fact many more habitable planets in the universe than previously thought.
The traditional starting point for calculating the chances of finding extra-terrestrial life starts with finding planets with liquid water on the surface.
Planets (or moons) which meet this criteria live in the so-called 'Goldilocks Zone', where planets are just the right distance from their sun ("not too hot, not too cold") for water to exist.
But new computer models, presented at this week's British Science Festival, allow scientists to identify planets with underground water, which is kept liquid by planetary heat.
These planets, they say, could be habitable.
Sean McMahon, a PhD student from Aberdeen University, who worked on creating the model, said: 'It's the idea of a range of distances from a star within which the surface of an Earth-like planet is not too hot or too cold for water to be liquid.
'So traditionally people have said that if a planet is in this Goldilocks zone - not too hot and not too cold - then it can have liquid water on its surface and be a habitable planet'
Prof John Parnell, also from Aberdeen University, said: 'There is a significant habitat for microorganisms below the surface of the Earth, extending down several kilometres.
'And some workers believe that the bulk of life on Earth could even reside in this deep biosphere.'
Going underground: Recent research shows how much life exists within our own planet's interior
The BBC reports that the team are now developing models to predict which planets might harbour underground reservoirs of liquid water - in turn raising the possibility of alien life.
Mr McMahon added: 'If you take into account the possibility of deep biospheres, then you have a problem reconciling that with the idea of a narrow habitable zone defined only by conditions at the surface.'
The team said that even if a planet so far from its sun that that it received almost no solar heat, it could still maintain underground liquid water. - dailymail

The story I am about to tell has never been published, nor has it been written down, But I decided that in spite of any doubts I may have, it is better to tell the story.
Downtown Concepción, next to its lovely Plaza de Armas (town square), has always been a very busy area due to its strong commercial attraction. What I am recalling here always occurred in the afternoon and did not go on for longer than one month.
Specifically, I began to notice a certain type of person: Tall, white-skinned, unaccompanied, with nearly automatic movements, straight backs, males whose ages ranged between youth and middle age, and no females at all. Their clothing was commonplace. What was it then that startled me? The napes of their necks. They wore no headgear of any sort. The napes of their necks could be seen in a straight angle, which is not customary, with flat occipital bones. This made their appearance unforgettable. I think I must have seen at least ten people matching this description. After all these years, which add up to sixty-eight, I have never seen them again despite the fact that I have covered most of this nation's territory.
Another characteristic was their thinness: normal features, hair running from black to dark blonde, combed backward. Angular faces, average height, but rather tall and with somewhat elongated noses.
Despite the passing of years, this memory has remained indelible in my memory and I can assure you it isn't adolescent fantasy. I am a person with good powers of observation. Of course, I shared these experiences with the friends I had at the time, who also marveled, much like myself, that those strange people were not recognized as customary visitors to the downtown area, unlike ourselves, who went there every afternoon to enjoy our idle and carefree student lives.
Editor's Note: Upon consulting the files of IIEE Chile, another resident of this city - Alejandro Verdugo Garay - had a similar experience, and also had subsequent ones with strange beings, completely out of context, in the Nahuelbuta Mountains.
(With no exact dates or references, this story remains clearly anecdotal. However, it is interesting to see that the descriptions of the supposedly strange entities matches the "Nordic" beings associated with the Friendship Island mystery that has baffled Chilean researchers for decades - SC)
