Just the Facts?: Sasquatch Legend Meets Science -- Are Some UFOs Alive? -- Unknown Encounter In Michigan
Sasquatch researchers face unwilling peers
It’s easy not to believe in Bigfoot. It’s harder to accept the possibility, and harder still to go public with that acceptance.
Fingerprint expert Jimmy Chilcutt says he has “had that used against me, or tried to use against me, in court.” Members of the jury, how seriously can you take the testimony of a man who who believes in THAT?
Earlier this spring, while up for a promotion within the faculty of Idaho State University, Jeff Meldrum found “the bias and closed narrowmindedness of a few of my colleagues rearing its ugly head once again.”
Meldrum’s promotion was approved, but he, Chilcutt and others researching the Sasquatch phenomenon remain frustrated by those peers who remain unwilling even to consider their findings.
“It’s baffling that academics, who one would think would be objective and open-minded to questions on the fringes of knowledge,” Meldrum said, “would instead not be fair-minded and egalitarian in the treatment of their colleagues that delve into that realm to explore where the evidence will lead.
“But the scientific community is a community of people and individually they are subject to all the biases and prejudices of any other cross-section of humanity.”
A number renowned scientists — notably George Schaller, one of the world’s preeminent naturalists, and primatologist Jane Goodall, known for her chimpanzee research — have publicly called for more a open-minded approach by science to the research of Meldrum and others.
But perhaps no scientist has undergone a more dramatic transformation in terms of that open-mindedness than Daris Swindler.
A long-time professor of anthropology at the University of Washington, Swindler quite literally wrote the book on the comparative anatomy of man, apes and chimpanzees. His masterwork, “An Atlas of Primate Gross Anatomy,” is considered mandatory reading for all primate anatomists.
And for many years, Swindler was publicly adamant that Sasquatch did not and could not exist.
“He was the required poo-poo guy when it came to anything Bigfoot,” says John Green, a retired newspaper publisher and editor British Columbia. “If invited, he would give the scientific comment that there simply couldn’t be any such thing.”
In September 2000, though, a group of researchers took a 31/2-by-5 foot cast of what appeared to be a partial body print of a large animal reclining in the mud in a Skamania County area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest called Skookum Meadow.
Soon after the discovery a number of scientists, including Meldrum and Swindler, were invited to an Edmonds, Wash., hotel to study the imprint cast and discuss their findings as part of a documentary film, “Legend Meets Science.”
“He looked at that cast and saw the very same thing I did,” recalls Meldrum. “His attention immediately was drawn to this remarkable Achilles tendon and very broad heel imprint, and what we interpreted to be the prominent buttock.
“The combination of short, pronounced buttock and a well-developed Achilles tendon equals biped — and nothing else.”
For Swindler, though, that realization was profoundly affecting — something that became obvious to the documentary film’s producer, Doug Hajicek, when he went to Swindler’s suite to find out what his on-camera testimony would be.
“He got really choked up,” Hajicek said of Swindler, who died in 2007. “He literally had tears coming down his face.”
Hajicek said Swindler had calculated, based on the size and structure of the creature’s leg and well-defined Achilles tendon, that the weight of the animal had to have been between 600 and 800 pounds. And that, as Meldrum said, the animal had to have been bipedal — that is, moving around primarily on two legs.
Swindler’s emotions, Hajicek said, came from having just talked over the phone with his family to tell them about his findings, “because what he was about to say on camera was probably going to change his life … that, basically, these things were real.” - sportsyakima

Unknown Encounter...UFO, Entity or What?
My husband, 8 year old daughter, and I were in Lachine, MI at my husbands uncles house on June 22, 2012. This is a small town about 1/2 hr away from Alpena in northern lower MI. We were there to patch up some holes on the eves where bats were going in and had a nest. It was dusk and we were waiting for the all bats to fly out before we patched the holes. My husband seen a object and he pointed to it. It was moving very slow coming towards us and it was black. It was about 3 telephone poles higher then the tree line. The place we were at was very wooded and surrounded by nothing much but farms and fields, it was a very quiet night. This object made no noise and moved slower then a bird. I thought it must be a huge bird he's showing me but as it got closer I seen it had no movement just slowly floating across the sky! It was bigger then a human..almost as if a person could fit inside of this small thing? Or a large creature kinda hunched over? I dont know how else to decribe it. I instantly got the feeling something wasn't right about this thing cause nothing moves like this. We got a good minute or so to look at it as it moved in front of us and we couldnt figure out what this thing was. We couldent make out any detail on it. Nothing on it was moving. It wasnt a bird, plane, ballons, or anything we have ever seen. It gave me the creeps just seeing this strange thing move so unnatural. My daughter kept asking me what is it? I had no idea what to say. It continued to go past us and never went higher or lower just perfectly straight across till it disapeard behind the tall trees out of our sight. Went back there the next night but didnt see it. - MUFON CMS

Texas man eats family dog alive while on synthetic marijuana
Michael Terron Daniel, 22, of Waco, was in custody Monday charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal in a bizarre incident on June 14 when a man who claimed to be on the synthetic drug K-2 chased a neighbor while barking a growling like a dog and then attacked a family dog, which he beat, strangled and then started to eat.
Daniel was arrested Monday at his workplace without incident, police said.
The arrest stems from an incident on June 14 at 4601 Athens in Waco where officers were sent after a caller reported that a man was “going crazy.”
The man, who evidently assaulted several people at the home and told them he “was on a bad trip from ingesting K-2, ”got down “on his hands and knees and chased a neighbor while barking and growling like a dog,” according to witnesses, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Monday.
The man then took a medium-sized black dog onto the front porch of the home where he beat and strangled the animal and then “began to bite into the dog, ripping pieces of flesh away,” Swanton said.
The dog died at the scene.
Officers found Daniel sitting on the porch with blood on his hands, clothing and face, Swanton said.
He was “initially incoherent and unresponsive,” Swanton said, and was taken to Providence Health Center by ambulance.
While waiting for paramedics to arrive, Swanton said, Daniel asked officers to fight him or use a stun gun “to help him get off his bad trip,” Swanton said.
Officers did neither, Swanton said.
Daniel was awaiting booking at the McLennan County Jail Friday afternoon.
K-2 is a form of synthetic marijuana.
None of the chemicals the herbal product contains is a copy of anything found in cannabis, although the effects can be similar.
Studies suggest synthetic cannabis use is associated with psychosis and the exacerbation of existing psychotic disorders.
Extreme paranoia, hallucinations and violent behavior have also been reported. - kwtx

Grass linked to Texas cattle deaths
A mysterious mass death of a herd of cattle has prompted a federal investigation in Central Texas.
Preliminary test results are blaming the deaths on the grass the cows were eating when they got sick, reports CBS Station KEYE.
The cows dropped dead several weeks ago on an 80-acre ranch owned by Jerry Abel in Elgin, just east of Austin.
Abel says he's been using the fields for cattle grazing and hay for 15 years. "A lot of leaf, it's good grass, tested high for protein - it should have been perfect," he told KEYE correspondent Lisa Leigh Kelly.
The grass is a hybrid form of Bermuda known as Tifton 85 which has been growing here for 15 years, feeding Abel's 18 head of Corriente cattle. Corriente are used for team roping because of their small size and horns.
"When we opened that gate to that fresh grass, they were all very anxious to get to that," said Abel.
Three weeks ago, the cattle had just been turned out to enjoy the fresh grass, when something went terribly wrong.
"When our trainer first heard the bellowing, he thought our pregnant heifer may be having a calf or something," said Abel. "But when he got down here, virtually all of the steers and heifers were on the ground. Some were already dead, and the others were already in convulsions."
Within hours, 15 of the 18 cattle were dead.
"That was very traumatic to see, because there was nothing you could do, obviously, they were dying," said Abel.
Preliminary tests revealed the Tifton 85 grass, which has been here for years, had suddenly started producing cyanide gas, poisoning the cattle.
"Coming off the drought that we had the last two years ... we're concerned it was a combination of events that led us to this," Dr. Gary Warner, an Elgin veterinarian and cattle specialist who conducted the 15 necropsies, told Kelly.
What is more worrisome: Other farmers have tested their Tifton 85 grass, and several in Bastrop County have found their fields are also toxic with cyanide. However, no other cattle have died.
Scientists at the U.S. Department of Agriculture are dissecting the grass to determine if there might have been some strange, unexpected mutation.
Until it can be determined why this grass suddenly began producing cyanide, Abel is keep his livestock far away.
"The grasshoppers are enjoying it now," he said. - cbsnews

'The 'Red Rain' Mystery: Showers of Alien Life?' comment
I received an interesting comment from a reader in reference to The 'Red Rain' Mystery: Showers of Alien Life?:
Lon ~
Something that has always troubled me about the red rain falling...repeatedly... in Kerala, is that writers of articles about the phenomenon seldom mention the fact that the rain falls in this same area only, over a span of years, so its source is a mystery of equal importance!
Something local is creating the spores and mixing them with rain - something either terrestrial or extraterrestrial in nature - but the idea that the rain is coming down from space at that moment, and falling again and again in the same area introduces an impossibility: targeting!
Considering the movement of our planet in space, and its continuing revolution during that movement over the months and years since the last red rain, the only way the rain could come to earth's surface in the same area again means that some intelligence is targeting the area, controlling the material, and delivering the downfall!!!
We either have to deal with that fact, or discard the whole concept of extraterrestrial origin, turning, perhaps, to alternate reality proposals, parallel universes, multiple layers of existence, ghosts or some new and totally unfamiliar mechanism, to explain the targeting.
How else can it happen? Fuz

Are Some UFOs Living Space Beings?
By Dr. Franklin Ruehl, Ph.D. - Rather than alien spacecraft, could some UFOs actually be living beings which normally inhabit the cosmic void?
"Zeroid" is the generic term applied to bioforms which may populate the recesses of free space. This domain is characterized by virtually zero temperature and zero atmospheric pressure.
While biologists might contend space is unsuitable for biogenesis, Russian astrophysicist Dr. V.l. Goldanskii argued that appreciable quantities of prebiotic material should be able to accumulate in the regions surrounding nebulae, or titanic gas clouds.
With the protracted passage of time, such matter could ultimately evolve into some form of life, suited to the brutal confines of space. Already dozens of organic compounds have been identified in space, including formaldehyde, prussic acid, and cellulose. In short, there is an abundance of basic building blocks out there to allow for the evolution of zeroids.
Considering that our island universe is approximately 13.7 billion years old, it is conceivable that zeroids represent the earliest life forms in the cosmic backdrop, perhaps even existing for nearly that entire time!
With such an elongated span of time at their disposal, zeroids could easily have trod many different evolutionary paths: They may range in dimensionality from the microscopic to the macroscopic.
Morphologies may vary from the utterly simple to the extraordinarily complex. They may live singly or in vast colonies. It should, of course, be stressed that humanoid forms are not to be expected. But, intelligence might be a developed feature.
For sustenance, zeroids' primary bill of fare might well be intergalactic dust and gas. Also not to be overlooked is the distinct possibility that larger zeroidal entities might possibly feast upon smaller ones.
Zeroids may have migrated to all sectors of space -- both within and without galaxies. Endowed with both mobility and intelligence, it is conceivable that some may have actually penetrated our zone of existence and been seen as UFOs!
Atmospheric friction might parboil some zeroids to cinders, and our planet's gases and temperature might prove lethal to still others.
Yet, some may have evolved a protective shield -- either physical or electromagnetic in nature -- that has enabled them to survive entry into our domain. These would be the living UFOs!
Actually, two UFO cases appear to support this intriguing concept. In 1976, in the Cluj-Napoca region of Romania, there materialized what appeared to be a living sphere of light exhibiting decidedly-animate behavior. Photographs taken of the entity passed all tests for legitimacy.
And, in British Columbia in 1978, researcher Dorothy Wilkinson snapped the first of many shots of bizarre string-like forms of light that resembled space worms!
So, considering the vastness of both space and time, it is certainly within the realm of feasibility that at least some UFOs may actually be living space creatures! - THP
